Regarding the 350th anniversary of the birth of the first scholarly journal, the article presents an account of the importance of the journal as an instrument for the communication of science, as well as the Latin American efforts to compile, preserve, organize and disseminate their scholarly journals and the scientific information they contain. The contribution to this goal made by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) through the production of its Latin American Bibliography is highlighted. Finally, a prospective of the evolution of scholarly journals and information systems in the region is done.Downloads
