Quality programs in Brazilian libraries: overview and perspectives

Abstract

The library institutions engaged in quality programs in Brazil are researched to establish a map of the Brazilian reality. Quality programs based on ISO9000 and the Brazilian quality awards were focused. In Brazil, those programs have been very diffi cult to implement due to little information about the subject, the high cost of the programs, and the managers’ lack of competence. The authors suggest that the managers prepare themselves and their staff carefully for the process
