Abstract

A biographical sketch of Professor Ismael Eduardo Murguía Maranon, a leading Peruvian-Brazilian archivist, information scientist and humanist, is provided. Thereafter, the papers offered in his honor by several American academics are presented. These articles delve into the critical perspective of information science, archives and photography that Professor Murguia cultivated along his fruitful life.

José Augusto Chaves Guimaraes es licenciado en Bibliotecología y en Derecho, con Doctorado en Ciencia de la Comunicación, y Post Doctorado en Análisis Documental. Es Profesor Catedrático de Universidad en el Departamento de Ciencia de la Información de la Universidade Estadual Paulista (Marília – Brasil) y Investigador del Consejo Nacional de Investigación de Brasil (CNPq). Ha sido presidente de la Asociación Brasileña de Escuelas de Bibliotecología y evaluador de carreras de Bibliotecología en Latino-América. Es autor de varias obras científicas (libros, capítulos, artículos de revistas académicas) nacionales e internacionales. Actúa como miembro de consejos editoriales de revistas científicas en el área de Ciencia de la Información en distintos países y tiene como áreas de interés e investigación: análisis documental, documentación jurídica, formación y actuación profesional en el área de información y Diplomática moderna.
