Abstract

In the contemporary society, the recurring preoccupation about the effective use and appropriation of information has forced a progressive maturing of Information Science and its extention to new fields of study. In archival management, some gaps can be found concerning the treatment of photographs that have not been solved either theoretically or methodologically. This study approaches one of these gaps: the one related to the processing of the informational content of the photographic documents in archives. After a literature review, several recommendations are proposed regarding the identification, organization, representation, retrieval and access to the informational content of photographs in archives.

Estudiante de Doctorado en el Programa de Postgrado en Ciencia de la Información, en la línea de Organización de la Información, en la Universidad Estatal Paulista – UNESP, Campus de Marília, SP, Brasil, donde desarrolla un proyecto de investigación cuyo título es “identificación y organización de fotografías en la perspectiva archivistica: propuesta teórica y metodológica para fondos documentarios” bajo la orientación de la Profa. Dra. Mariângela Spotti Lopes Fujita.  Maestra en Servicio Social por la UNESP, Facultad de Historia, Derecho y Servicio Social, Campus de Franca, SP. Graduada en Ciencias Sociales y Archivología por la UNESP, Facultad de Filosofía y Ciencias – Campus de Marília. Desde 2005 viene investigando en el tema tratamiento del contenido de fotografias. Actualmente la investigadora desarrolla trabajos en la Línea de Investigación “Imagenes en Unidad de Información” en el tema tratamiento de contenido, identificación y organización de fotografías; también es miembro del Grupo de Investigación Análisis Documentário, ambos junto al Cnpq, São Paulo, en Brasil.

Adjunct Professor at UNESP - Universidade Estadual Paulista, in Marília, SP - Brazil, Department of Information Science, teaching disciplines of Indexing and Abstracts and Alphabetical Documentary Languages in undergraduate course, and Information Organization in graduate course of UNESP Information Science Program. She has carried out research activities in the Documentary Analysis Research Group with the research project named "Reading in Documentary Analysis" as CNPq's fellow since 1993, that has originated several scientific papers. She is the author of the book "PRECIS na língua portuguesa: teoria e prática de indexação / PRECIS in portuguese language: theory and practice of indexing. She has been the Coordinator of Coordenadoria Geral de Bibliotecas da UNESP from April 1999 to January 2005, and consequently member of Comitê Gestor do Consórcio de Biblioteca Eletrônica / Manager Committee of Electronic Library Consortium and of Conselho de Reitores das Universidades Estaduais Paulistas - CRUESP. She received her M.S. and PhD degrees from Escola de Comunicações e Artes - Universidade de São Paulo, in Communication Sciences and her Associate Professor degree from Faculdade de Filosofia e Ciências - UNESP - Câmpus de Marília. Fujita is member of Conselho Editorial de Periódicos Científicos da UNESP / Unesp Scientific Periodicals Editorial Council and of Brazilian Committees of Periodicals in Information Science.
